- The movie pass service I subscribed started out great but then they started to make restrictions like you couldn’t watch certain movies or only specific movies were available and changes that I had not signed up for and it is very frustrating. WHY? the company had a bad business plan and needs to stay afloat. Their ideas are good but execution aren't great so they need to pivot and change.
- It bugs me when I have a problem with a service or I need help and you call the customer service line and they either cant do anything to help or you can never reach them. WHY? Customer service might not be a priority for these companies. Customer service reps are not given any liberties and maybe just asked to read off a script.
- The over the air TV subscriptions are great and cheap but they buffer a lot sometimes and interrupt what you are watching. WHY? They are trying to keep costs down due to no contracts and no installation fees so the technology might not be completely there yet.
- My Sprint service data is so slow there are areas in town where I cant even load an image from google. WHY? Sprint is in a battle against other large successful cell providers and they don't have enough coverage especially in rural areas.
- I get frustrated when I try to be on time for work or other engagements I have but something happens and I am just minutes sometimes even seconds late. WHY? Being on time is important. It shows that you care and that you are organized and so when someone is not onetime we tend to judge them by that.
- After I workout in this humidity my clothes are completely wet and I sometimes I cant wash them right away so I have no idea what to do with them. If I leave them in my hamper all wet then they begin to rot. WHY? We all want to look good and smell good. I don't want my clothes to stink but also it is not efficient to be washing clothes everyday.
- There are a lot of great burger joints but most of them don’t have great quality as far as their lettuce, tomatoes, and onions and it drives me crazy. WHY? Most burger places want to spend more money on the quality of their meats and maybe add ons that give them an advantage. Lettuce and veggies is not a priority for them.
- The traffic on 20th ave from about 3-6pm is horrible just to drive half a mile it takes about 30 minutes. WHY? We want to avoid accidents and when streets are too busy accidents are more likely to occur. Also we are all about time and saving time so being stuck in traffic is a waste of our precious time.
- Most radio stations I’ve listened to play the same songs over and over again you have to keep changing stations or else you’ll go crazy. WHY? Maybe these radio stations are trying to target specific groups of people so they want that music playing all of the time. They might also just want to play the newest things to show that they are hip and stay with the times.
- Sports Channels and stations like ESPN are becoming too political. WHY? Everyone has opinions and we are living in a time where everyone wants to be heard. These sports analysts might not want to stick to a specific script and might want to talk about what might be important to them. It is their jobs and their careers.
- Moving into an Apartment feels like you are being taken advantage of with all the fees and deposits. WHY? The Management company has to make money but I think more importantly they have to protect themselves. They might have been burned a lot more than we think so now they add on all these fees to try and cut their losses.
- Drivers not turning right on red when they can. WHY? People are afraid of breaking the law or causing problems so they are hesitant to do something that is legal but might "look" risky. They might also not know the rules.
- Waiting in line at the grocery store or bank or really anywhere. WHY? Again time is money. We are all about saving time so we can do what we want so waiting in line feels like a huge sacrifice.
- When you use a public restroom and wash your hands and realize there is no paper to dry your hands with. WHY? These public places might not have the money or staff to be on top of all the issues that come up on a daily basis.
- My contacts after a couple hours begin to irritate my eyes and hurt. WHY? Contacts aren't something normal and they are providing a benefit in themselves so maybe its just hard to have it all.
- Chick fil a line for lunch is extended onto the Main Street. WHY? They are a great company and are very popular. Also lunch time is the time where most full time workers in that area can actually have a break from work.
- When people at restaurants waste food. WHY? Not everyone is as fortunate as some of us here in America. There are people in other countries dying to have the privileges we have.
- When people are rude to waitresses/waiters. WHY? Shows a lack of patience and lack of empathy. They have a hard job and are trying to do their best just like each of us do at our own professions.
- The ice in the ice maker gets clogged and the ice get all stuck together. WHY? The machine might not know when to stop making ice. The sensor might not be working properly or maybe there haven't been too much upgrades on the system because it is not something we think about much.
- When I buy some awesome white shoes and they turn yellow after a couple wears. WHY? The materials in the shoes aren't made to be able to stay white forever. With the shoe industry as it is every shoe company is trying to save money on production and material costs so it might be a cheaper material.
The first 10 bugs were pretty easy to come up with but the last 10 were definitely more challenging. This exercise forced me to really look at the world around me and figure out what really bugs me or maybe not so much bug but things that aren't how I'd like them to be, and how we can find solutions. It also helped to realize its not all about me and that I have to have patience because a lot of these bugs are helping make my life better but I am still complaining about how "I want them to be". Being in the Entrepreneur mindset helps to see services and business in a different light and understand that things aren't always going to be exactly how we want them to be.
Hello Lucas,
ReplyDeleteI found it interesting that your first four bugs are paid services where you have spent hard earned money. I am a frugal person and anytime I spend money on a service I too want it to be worth it’s cost. A bug of mine that I didn’t put in my list, is when you have a service and they offer promotional deals just to new customers and will not give them to long term paying customers. This assignment really had me thinking, I hope you found it beneficial like I did.

Hi Lucas,
ReplyDeleteI'm really happy that you mentioned movie pass because I also had this same issue and yet it completely slipped my mind when making my list of bugs. I guess it just goes to show how hard it really can be to think of all the little things that bother us in our daily lives. I also appreciated the bug about people being rude to waiters/waitresses. Having previously worked as a waiter I can completely sympathize and have often had to deal with very nasty customers. Again that's another clever bug that didn't cross my mind during this assignment.

Lucas,
ReplyDeleteI thought this assignment was going to be hard but once you think of one subject that has many bugs, I feel like it becomes easier. You went on about services and subscriptions which gave you about 5 bugs, and I found a couple in the subject of tennis. I also found it easier to come up with the why they exist part when I was on this subject. A lot of your bugs were good and popular amongst everyone else, like the waiting in line at the grocery store. This is the last thing that I that I want to do when getting off work, but a lot of people don't go on the weekends when they should to re stock for the week. Great post and I enjoyed going through your bugs and learning why you felt they existed.
