Workers: Take this job and shove it
I believe an opportunity for education on starting businesses, being self employed and entrepreneurship are great. U.S. workers are quitting their jobs at the largest rates we have ever seen and there are more job postings than applicants.
The prototypical customer is someone who is not happy at their current job or is seeking more leadership, responsibilities, freedom, etc.
I think this is something that is very easy to exploit. With the amount of social media and the ability to reach so many people at the click of a button this makes the opportunity that much better.
The NBA’s Business model
I believe an opportunity exists for a cheaper way to get NBA tickets. There are already many websites that will help you do that on the national level but maybe not so much on the local level. The facts show that the NBA is very successful and ticket prices are going up because of its success.
The prototypical customer is one who might not have the money to attend games but is a die hard fan and would want to attend. I think this would be harder to exploit just because there are already competitors out there and it would be really hard to get your name out there.
Homeless people sleeping in public
I believe an opportunity exists to provide more of a work for sleep type homeless shelter. That way the community is getting something out of it and the money being used for the homeless is also cleaning up the streets.
The prototypical customer will be government officials and residents that are fed up with homeless people sleeping on the streets or parks near residential areas.
Any time something with the government is involved it becomes hard to exploit just because it will take much time and persuading and it is not easy for them to make decisions.
NBA Age Change
I think many opportunities exist in this market. The NBA is booming and sports in general in the U.S. and the World is growing. There needs to be more focus on young players coming out of high school and being ready to enter the pros.
The prototypical customer is parents whose kids are into sports and aspire to make it to the higher levels. Also Coaches at the high school level interested in getting their students into better hands for the future. I think this would be an area that can be easily exploited because of the popularity of sports.
I think a lot of the topics I chose and the opportunities I saw where based on my love for sports and also my sales background.
Hello Lucas,
ReplyDeleteI agree that people want to start their own company and be self-employed. While the idea that people are seeking more freedom may be true, I would agree only if it is freedom from their current boss. I would suggest that there is less freedom being self-employed or owning a company. I would also suggest that an entrepreneur has a boss, but that it is the customers they serve. The average employee works between 40-45 hours a week and self-employed person usually works 55-60 hours on average per week, including weekends. Therefore, freedom is not a good goal for being self-employed or entrepreneurship.

Hi Lucas,
ReplyDeleteI loved the first article that you wrote about especially because it was so applicable to a class that is encouraging us to take the path of being an entrepreneur. The number of people quitting their jobs is definitely surprising but after giving it some thought it makes a bit of sense. This is a time period where so many people are encouraged to be self-employed. I find this to be mostly due to the internet and social media which make it easy to share your idea and/or products.

Hey Lucas,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your two articles regarding the NBA for they both had a reasonable look on the sport world. It is just ridiculous how much they ask you to pay for a nose bleed seat and it puts fans in a tough position. On the other hand, the NBA lowering the age acceptance is awesome for it allows kids who come from poor uprisings a chance. College is not for everyone and can be a waste of time for some kids who use sports as their escape from poverty.
Thanks for sharing!
